Barhaspatya system is a system of measurement of time in Indian calendar, which emphasizes on knowing the effects of the movement of Brihaspati in sixty years or Samvatsars of life of a human being.

In this system five Samvatsars make a Yug, and 12 Yugs make the 60 years of life.

The lords of the twelve Yugs are:
(1) Vishnu, (2) Brihaspati, (3) Indra, (4) Lohit, (5) Tvashta, (6) Ahirbudhanya, (7) Pitar, (8) Vishvadev, (9) Chandrama, (10) Indragni, (11) Ashwini Kumar, and (12) Bhag

The lords of the five years in a Yug are:
(1) Agni, (2) Surya, (3) Chandrama, (4) Brahma, and (5) Shiv

The overall supervision of the first 20 year is done by Brahma, the next 20 years by Vishnu and the last 20 years by Mahesh.

The names and effects of the sixty years of life are:

(1) Prabhav - abundance of Yagya Karm, (2) Vibhav - comfortable life, (3) Shukla - grains in abundance, (4) Pramod - happiness, (5) Prajapati - overall growth, (6) Angira - increase in pleasure, (7) Shrimukh - increase in population, (8) Bhav - increase in good feelings, (9) Yuva - rains in abundance, (10) Dhata - abundance of herbs, (11) Ishwar - peaceful and healthy life, (12) Bahudhanya - abundance of grains, (13) Pramathi - average life, (14) Vikram - abundance of grains, (15) Vrish - nourishment for all, (16) Chitrabhanu - wonderful life, (17) Subhanu - welfare and good health, (18) Taran - auspicious clouds and rains, (19) Parthiv - worldly gain (20) Avyay - rains in abundance, (21) Sarvjit - the best rains, (22) Sarvadhari - abundance of grains, (23) Virodhi - shortage of rains, (24) Vikriti - creates fear, (25) Khar - introduces bravery, (26) Nandan - feel good factor increases, (27) Vijay - destruction of enemies, (28) Jay - cures all diseases, (29) Manmath - sufferings with fever, and people indulge in evil works (30) Durmukh - people speak harshly.
